They do have photos of cameras and just two line drawings of a Hasselblad showing controls but it all lacks real background detail. It is all here but not written in any depth or volume for anyone who knows anything about photography or the moon missions.

These photos can be easily recognized thanks to the little crosses coming from the reseau plate at the back of the HEDC. All these Hasselblad cameras are part of my collection. The specialist Hasselblad cameras used for photography on surface of the moon never returned, 12 in all. All that was bought back were the film magazines – quite reasonable given the weight saved. I’ve been keenly interested in space since watching the Apollo missions unfold in the 60’s and early 70’s – indeed I first went to university to study astrophysics.

When Hasselblad was tapped by NASA to supply cameras for the moon mission, the company’s dedicated space division made several copies of the units, many of which never flew.

Hasselblad moved away from the traditional 6 × 6 format to 6 × 4.5 cm, and included autofocus lenses. Photos of the solar corona that included the planet Mercury and some background stars were taken from lunar orbit by Apollo 15 Command Module Pilot Al Worden.
